From Craig’s Journal (from a temporary low, to a wonderful high in minutes)

I woke up thinking about my life.  There are so many things I want to do and in some ways may be sleeping on.  I remembered the fact that life does not stop for anyone, and that everyday that goes by, I need to be sure to be my authentic self.

In some ways I felt like I was missing the mark, even though for the most part, life is quite good. I also thought about changes that I need to make, and maybe even a dream or two that if I was honest, seemed to be eluding me.  “My perfect relationship, ok most happy relationship, am I in it?  Look at the changes that need to be made. My new meditation center, it’s just a shell of what I would like it to be.  So much potential in so many areas, this is not a test run this is my life!” Needless to say, in that moment, I was not feeling my best.

Then I opened up to a page from my newest, yet to be released book, that I completed at least a year ago. The page was talking about the power of being thankful. I started to feel a little better just reading it. So I decided to put my thankfulness into action. I started thanking God and the Universe for many things. Like my wonderful home, and my children being healthy. I was thankful for my business and being able to be self employed practically all of my life. I thought about all the incredible ways God has blessed me and how the Universe has saved me from what looked like oncoming disaster, so many times.

I was thankful for all my good times, wonderful life and experiences, for my family friends and children. And as far as my meditation center goes. Wow, I actually have one, and it is wonderful, and growing. “Build on it!” Is what I thought. And for the projects that I felt way behind on. I felt appreciation for them and new energy to move on them. I was reminded that this is an adventure. And in my personal life, it has been a great ride and will continue to be. I was back once again, removed from my temporary low.  My exercise in being thankful paid off.

Peace and Blessings

Today’s Positive Thought (Is there some old idea or project calling your name?) Maybe it’s time has come

I told myself long ago that I should always be working on some sort of book project. The reason I decided this was because I noticed that my life  is much different when I am writing a book.  When I wrote my first book What If My Soul Is Eternal and Heaven Is Everywhere my life became this adventure where I found myself literally experiencing Heaven everywhere in my world.  It was like I was living the experience of what I was writing about.  Better yet I became the book.

When I wrote my second book Wise Words I was writing about lessons my teacher Mr. Ambrister taught me over the years through a series of sayings.  The next thing I knew the lessons seemed to be magically showing up in my world in the form of experiences on a daily basis.  I felt much closer to my teacher and learned the meanings of these sayings and lessons much deeper during that time period.

The same thing happened with the book that I am working on now, but I also find something else happening.  As I get closer and closer to being done with this book, I find myself having being more focused on a whole different subject matter, my dreams.   They seem to be talking to me more that usual.

Now a days I go to sleep, looking forward to my travels at night and the information I will come back with more than I normally would.  I also see this life as a dream more clearly than I ever have before.   This subject matter of dreams is the focus of a book that was originally supposed to be my second book.  I started on it years ago but decided to write Wise Words instead.  I have done some writing in it here and there over the last 15 years. For some reason I have never been able to keep my focus on completing this book.  The odd thing is, this dream book is the one book that my friends, meditation students, and family have wanted me to write most.   This new heightened interest I have on dreams now, tells me that it is time to finish my third book I am currently working on and finally put my focus on the book that I have been putting off finishing for so long.  It’s time has finally come.

What about you?  Are you looking for a new project?  Think back on some of those old ideas.  Maybe one of them is calling your name.

Question:

I just got a an offer for a job that is one hour away from home.  I’ve been looking for a job for a while with no luck on even getting interviews.  I saw this one, and contacted them.  To my surprise they called me right away.  I have been to two interviews and they are very interested in me.  I don’t get it.  Why the one that is far away?  When I did initially contact them I was not even taking it seriously.

Craig’s Answer:

Years ago when I had a landscape business, my business mentor told me to ask my customers if they want their gutters cleaned.  I never thought much of this idea.  Then one day I thought why not?  and asked a customer  if he needed his gutters cleaned.  He said yes, and we did it.  Two years later, I stopped doing landscape jobs and only did gutter cleaning.  I loved putting people’s minds at ease about possible water damage etc. and it paid well.  Now twenty years later, I still own the business.  We do gutter cleaning and window washing.  This business has been good to me and my family in ways I would have never imagined.

In my opinion, this job offer is a reminder that you have to be open-minded and know that your good can come from anywhere.  It will often come from places that you never would have thought,  if you let it.  This job may even be the best job you ever had in your life.

When you did answer the advertisement, even though you were just answering, thinking “there is no way they will hire me, besides it is too far”, just the act of answering was letting the whole universe know that you are open to good coming in ways you were not open to before.  The more you open up your mind to the possibilities of good coming in ways you would not look at before, the more you will find opportunities showing up all over the place.

Power Moves

The other day I was talking to my friend Aaron and I kept finding myself talking about power moves. This may not be the proper term for what I am talking about but it is the name I used. It started with me talking about part of a life class I saw on Oprah Winfrey’s network. This particular class was talking about living your dream. When I mentioned it to my friend he said “I thought Oprah retired.” I said she retired her show on ABC, but she is still on television. Oprah made a power move. She took her show and moved on to bigger things.” He said what do you mean. I said “She went from having her own show to having her own network, and she still does shows. She has more freedom and has others, who she chooses, on her network. That’s a power move if I ever saw one. Before I go any further, when I say speak about power I don’t mean it any a negative dominating way. I mean moving from where you are to a place of more influence or a place of more peace, more time, or simply to a place you would rather be, while still serving the world in ways that suit who you have become.

Making a power move does not always mean becoming bigger. With my gutter and window cleaning business one of the best moves I ever made was when I downsized years ago. It took a lot of signs and pushes from God to get me there but when I got there I began to charge more for my work, do less work, have more control of my business and have more time and money for my family, and other pursuits. Sometimes making a move can be very simple and it is often brought about by a problem at hand. For example at one time I was having trouble getting to my estimates. I felt like I was being stretched too thin. I was with a crew on many of the jobs and liked being out there, but it left less time for estimates. I began to feel like either I would have to pay someone else to do estimates or be on fewer jobs myself. Then an idea came to me about ways of giving the prices for many of our services right over the phone when the customer called for at least half of the jobs that I estimate. I thought of it many times but had not ironed out exactly how to do it until at this time. It saved time driving, helped the customer have an answer right away, and was the perfect answer to my question.

Here just recently I was asking if I should put more energy into expanding my business, which seems to be growing more and more on its own, or put the time and energy into expanding what I am doing with the meditation teaching and coaching. I decided I wanted an answer right away, so I opened a book expecting the answer to be on the page I opened up to. I opened up a Russel Simmons book. I am not sure if it was “Do You”, or “Super Rich”, but the page I opened up to had my answer right there. It told a story about how he had a business selling weed when he was younger and decided to put his energy into promoting parties because he knew he did not want to sell drugs the rest of his life. For me, I knew I loved the gutter and window business. I love serving the people and the life it gives me and my family, but I also know it’s time to devote more time and energy to my other endeavors. So I decided to keep the business going the way it is, giving the best service we can give without putting a lot of energy into expanding and use my free time to move on ideas I have been sitting on with the meditation teachings and positive movement. Now it’s time to expand in this area.
